Patterson's List
Patterson’s List is a Melbourne barristers’ clerking List established in 1976, marking fifty years at the Victorian Bar. It publishes barrister numbers by practice area: its largest groups practise in criminal law, family law and guardianship, public and administrative law, commercial law, equity and alternative dispute resolution.
Practice areas
Patterson’s List is unusual in publishing how many of its barristers practise in each area. At the time of writing: criminal law 41, family law and guardianship 38, public and administrative law 32, commercial 31, equity 26, alternative dispute resolution 23, children’s care and protection 18, and accredited mediators, common law and personal injury, and inquests and inquiries 17 each, with smaller groups across building and construction, corporations, insolvency, industrial and employment, insurance, wills and estates, and other areas.
From Counsel
The List’s website carries commentary and case notes written by its members, including a practical guide to briefing counsel for the first time.
