Foley's List

Foley’s List is Melbourne’s largest barristers’ clerking List, established in 1860. It represents more than 300 barristers, mediators and readers across 141 areas of law, and is member-owned with a competitive clerking commission. The clerk’s office is in Owen Dixon Chambers East, 205 William Street.

Practice areas

A generalist List. Foley’s publishes 141 areas of law across its membership, spanning commercial, common law, criminal, family, public and specialist practice.

The clerk's office

Six clerks and five account clerks, which Foley’s describes as the largest administrative team at the Victorian Bar. Clerks are responsible for practice management, professional development, fee negotiation, and bookings and schedule management, with diary and financial records updated at the same time a brief is taken. The List states that it ensures every barrister has an equal opportunity to be put forward for work in their area.
