Chapman's List Barristers

Chapman’s List Barristers is a Melbourne clerking List led by clerk Chris Chapman. It carries on the heritage of Howells’ List, established by the Victorian Bar in September 1980 with an initial intake of nineteen barristers, and of the Roberts’ and Laurence’s Lists that later merged into it.

Heritage

In September 1980 the Victorian Bar appointed Ric Howell to establish a new List of barristers. It was formed from three consecutive intakes of readers, with nineteen barristers in the first. Under his leadership the List grew through the following decades and merged with the Lists of clerks Roberts and Laurence. Chapman’s List Barristers continues that lineage.

Approach

The List describes itself as contemporary and forward-thinking, with a progressive mindset and a focus on engagement between barristers of all seniority, from readers through to silks.
